Janet Arms

Flute & Piccolo

Janet Arms has, for the past 16 years, been a member of the New York City Opera orchestra, where she plays flute and piccolo. She has also performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, as guest principal flutist with the St Louis Symphony in the US and throughout Europe. She has played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston, at Tanglewood, and on tour. Janet has soloed in the U.S. and abroad with the New York Chamber Soloists. Ms Arms has a decade long association with the Bard Festival Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard, and is a former member of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra.

She now makes her home in New York where she is active in commercial recording. Recent chamber music activities include performances with musicians of the NYC Opera at Lincoln Center, and guest artist with the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival in St Michaels, Maryland. Ms Arms is a prizewinner in both the NY Flute Club competition and the Concert Artists International competition.

She made her recital debut at Carnegie Hall while completing her Masters degree at Juilliard, and has been an adjudicator and guest master class artist at NY Flute Club events. Ms Arms received her Bachelors degree from The Hartt School, where she is now a member of the flute faculty.
