Arthur Arnold

Arthur Arnold

Artistic Director

Dutch born conductor Arthur Arnold, former music director of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, is known for his captivating performances as a popular, guest conductor with symphony orchestras around the world. As newly minted Canadian, Arthur has made his home in Powell River, and is the force behind bringing this globally extraordinary caliber of performance to our community.

Since 2013, under his baton, over seven hundred of the finest pre-professional, young classical musicians, including conducting students, have performed as part of the PRISMA Festival Orchestra. Arthur’s natural ability to lead, inspire and motivate aspiring musicians by creating a collaborative, supportive environment allows students to access their greatest potential. As an educator, Arthur challenges students to source their own passion and emotion and creates performances that rise above the ordinary.

"Arthur Arnold is one of the rare conductors who not only possesses a flawless technique, but also inspires the orchestra, giving the individual musicians creative freedom.” Shalom News Moscow

Arlan Smallwood

Arlan Smallwood

Operations Manager

Arlan’s love of arts & culture came during an impromptu trip to Paris, France and has been a guiding light ever since. He completed his Business Administration degree in British Columbia before heading back to France to obtain a Master of Business Administration in Arts & Culture Management. His continuing mission is to help arts and culture organizations use their current resources efficiently, and to grow strategically. His strengths are in business strategy, systems analysis and design, and website building. Arlan currently runs his consulting company, Kermode Art & Culture, that is expanding its mission from helping organizations exclusively into offering a multi-day course on running a business as an artist, providing professional photographs of artwork, and supplying a hosted Wordpress website. It’s hard enough for many artists to own their craft publicly, so having an easy way to get started building a unique digital presence and have ongoing community of support has now become a necessity. Outside of the consulting arena, Arlan balances his time with his young daughter and partner, while also maintaining his creative outlets. He is a photographer and holds a special interest in new media art and digital preservation.
